Disc Golf Goes Pink raises $4,045 for breast cancer research

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) held its 4th annual Disc Golf Goes Pink tournament on September 14 at two-disc golf courses in Calera, AL: Oliver Park and George W. Roy Recreational Park. Sponsored by Bham Now, Vulcan Imaging Associates -Women’s, Active Air, and A.C. Legg, players had a great time participating in friendly competition while also raising significant funds for local breast cancer research. The event raised $4,045, thanks to the support of the community and sponsors.

Over 60 disc golfers of all ages from across the region competed in various categories based on age and skill level. Awards were presented to the 1st place winners in each category.

  • Mixed Amateur 3 – Robert Mallory – won in a playoff
  • Mixed Amateur 4 – Alan Mitchell
  • Mixed Amateur 40+ – Scott Burdette
  • Mixed Amateur 50+ – Jeff Nichols – won in a Playoff
  • Mixed Junior (Under 18) – Noah Mallory
  • Women’s Amateur 3 – Katlin Pridemore
  • Women’s Amateur 4 – Taylor Harris

Disc Golf Goes Pink is the beginning of the City of Calera’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, Calera Goes Pink. This event includes community activities and a t-shirt sale to raise funds for the BCRFA. The campaign continues with the Calera Goes Pink golf tournament on October 24 and a football game on October 25. For more information, visit caleragoespink.com.

Since 2020, Disc Golf Goes Pink has raised over $26,000 to support breast cancer research in Alabama (Gross funds raised: $32,730). All proceeds support the most promising, early-stage breast cancer research in Alabama, bringing hope to countless survivors and those affected by the disease.
