The City of Calera eagerly announces its continued partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) for the 14th consecutive year, completing a considerable accomplishment of raising $43,000 during the Calera Goes Pink! Campaign.
Bow-Up Against Breast Cancer archery tournament raises over $7,000 for breast cancer research
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) once again teamed up with the Heritage Archery Club and Bowhunters Association of Alabama to organize the 13th annual Bow-Up Against Breast Cancer 3D archery tournament. The event took place on May 25-26 at Cullman Community Archery Park and raised $7,464 to support local breast cancer research.
Over 130 archers of all ages from Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, including individuals and teams, competed in various categories such as fixed pins, open class, and traditional.
Awards were given to the following top archers and teams:
- Top Team (Highest Score) – West Park Archery Club
- Team Bow Up (Most Charitable) – West Park Archery Club
- Men Fixed Pins – Josh Calhoun
- Men Open – Dakota Knowles
- Men Traditional – John Sullins
- Senior Fixed Pins – Shane Sanford
- Senior Open – Patrick Crocker
- Women Fixed Pins – Ashley Templeton
- Women Open – Janet Knight
- Women Traditional – Catherine Roy
- Youth Boys – Sam Smith
- Youth Girls – Sophia Murphy
“Bow-Up Against Breast Cancer is a significant annual event, and we are grateful for the support we receive every year from our partners and archers,” said Beth Davis, the President & CEO of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. “With 1 in 8 women and 1 in 833 men estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, it is important to continue funding research that can improve the odds and enhance the quality of life for those affected by breast cancer. Events like Bow-Up are essential in our continuous initiatives.”
Since 2012, Bow-Up has successfully raised more than $242,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA). These funds have been instrumental in supporting cutting-edge, early-stage breast cancer research initiatives in Alabama. The impact of this research extends beyond the laboratory, offering hope and support to the countless survivors and individuals affected by this disease.
