THE 4TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS CONCERT

"A MAGICAL EVENING"

Birmingham, Ala. – On October 23, 2008, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) along with Presenting Sponsor UAB Health System hosted the 4^th Annual “Celebration of Mothers and Daughters” concert at the beautiful Alys Stephens Center in the Sirote Theatre.

The annual favorite for Breast Cancer Awareness Month featured the talented Mae Robertson along with her equally gifted daughter, Cally. This year Mae invited her entire band who performed on her new album “In White Light” to benefit breast cancer research. The band included: John Carroll, Peter Huttlinger, Steve Fidyk, Abe Becker, Jim Ohlschmidt and Penny Nichols on harmony. Mae recorded and produced the CD “In White Light” with the intention of raising awareness and funding for breast cancer research. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sales of the CD will go directly to fund breast cancer research in Alabama.

“This was a magical evening” says Dianne Mooney, BCRFA President. Each song that Mae and her daughter sang brought attendees closer together. It was a powerful celebration of loving relationships, and both the lyrics and music filled the room with emotion and gratitude for family and friends.”

Mae has released 8 previous albums: Stone by Stone, Smile, December Sky, All Through the Night, The Sun Upon the Lake Is Low, Sweet Dreams of Home, Dream, and the recently released Meet the Sun Halfway. Her Lullaby & Lovesong Collection CDs have received many awards including: ALA Notable Recording for Children, Parents’ Choice Gold and Silver, Oppenheim Platinum, Parent’s Guide to Children’s Media, NAPPA Gold, and have been named Best of the Year by Child Magazine, New Age Journal, and Booklist. Her CD’s have also been nominated for AFIM Indie Awards.

Co-sponsors of the event included Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz PC, Southern Natural Gas and Books-A-Million.

“Everything was absolutely perfect, said Donna Clark, BCRFA Secretary. From the catering (Kathy G) to the music, you couldn’t ask for a more wonderful evening.

The reception preceding the event in the lobby was catered by Kathy G. Graceful tiers of flowers adorned the buffet with pink roses and exotic flowers by Nancy Trucks of Flower Trucks.

Many mother-daughters pairs were spotted in the crowd including Cissy Held with daughter Karen Allen, Barbara and Laura Ashford, Cholett and Mary Cholett Still, sisters Joyce Levi, Jan Watts with mother Jimmie Taylor, Allene Parnell and Allene Neighbor, Jennifer Given and J. P. Hemingway.

Others spotted were Dolly O’Neal with her sister Barbara Nicol, Ray and Darnell Williams, Cathy and Paul Friedman, Sharon Blackburn, Donna Clark, Kim Mitchell, Kate Kiefer, M.L. Moody, Ann Hayes, Jan Watts, Elise Freeman, Dana Norton, Pat Patterson and Cathy Moss.

Dianne Mooney, BCRFA President gave a heartwarming and thought-provoking introduction.
“I’m so grateful for the breast cancer therapies that have enabled me to live longer,” said the two-time breast cancer survivor. The hope for new breakthroughs and ultimately for a cure drive my passion to fund this important work.”

Ms. Virginia Samford Donovan, Mae’s mother along with husband Webb Robertson attended and listened proudly to the velvety voices of the mother and daughter duo.
